Building on Portugal’s high potential for wind and solar power, a European consortium of Madoqua Renewables, Power2X and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners will develop a 500 MW electrolyser in the Sines Industrial and Logistics Zone (ZILS). Including facilities to produce up to 500 ktpa of green ammonia and a loading jetty, the project will supply both local industry and pan-European customers. Substituting current use of fossil-based hydrogen, the project aims to reduce yearly CO2 emissions by 600,000 ton, equivalent to the average emissions of 130,000 passenger vehicles.
“In Sines we are taking a big leap towards a European green hydrogen economy. This is real, this is big, and we are proud to be part of a consortium that can realize such a significant development.”
